Owens Award Winners

The sprinter Carmelita Jeter and the high jumper Jesse Williams won the Jesse Owens Award as the outstanding American track and field athletes of the year. Jeter, 31, won the 100 meters at the world championships in Daegu, South Korea, last summer. She also ran the anchor leg on the 400-meter relay team that held off a powerful Jamaican squad for the gold, along with taking second in the 200. Williams, 27, took the world title in the high jump, becoming the first American to do so since Charles Austin in 1991.
