Encouraging families to stay fit and healthy while having fun is part of an annual event this Saturday.
Fitness icons, including Olympian Carmelita Jeter and Junior Olympian Althea Moses, are guests at the Second Annual Family Fit Fair & 5K Run/Walk from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at El Dorado East Regional Park. Ironman Triathlete Nadia Ruiz and KidTribe founder Kellee McQuinn also will appear at the event, which is closed for registration.
The event is put on by the Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles and includes more than 1,000 troop members and their families participating in a costumed 5K with obstacles, such as inflatables and aerobics. A 2K Tot Trot will be available for the younger children.
Cardio hip-hop, extreme hula hooping and zumba, as well as archery and interactive activities also will be available.
Healthy food trucks, contests, raffles and other activities will be on hand at the event, which is sponsored by Nestlé and Ralphs Food 4 Less.
More than 40,000 girls throughout Los Angeles County are served by the Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles.
